Does it work for Squarespace sites only?

No way, hosay! You can use the templates and adapt to any hosting, site or content management system. The only Squarespace-specific section is the screenshots in the 'How-to' help articles, however you can use the format and re-write for your own CMS flows. It's fully customizable.
